Roofing Work That Holds Up

Greater Charlotte Contracting handles roofing repairs, full replacements, and inspections across the greater metro area we serve in the Carolinas. Roofing is where this business started more than 20 years ago, and it is still where we spend most of our time. If your roof is leaking, missing shingles, or you simply don't know what shape it's in after the last storm season, call (704) 957-5323 and we'll give you a straight answer on what it needs.

A roofing job's cost depends on the size of your roof, the pitch, what's under the shingles when we pull them back, and the materials you choose. Architectural shingles last longer than three-tabs and cost more upfront; a roof with rotted decking or failing underlayment needs more work than a clean tear-off. We scope every job honestly before we put a number to it. Every job is different. Contact Greater Charlotte Contracting for an accurate estimate. What we won't do is pad the scope to run your invoice up. Victoria Hitchcock put it plainly in her review: our quote was accurate with no hidden charges. That's the standard we hold every job to.

What We Cover

Repair, Replacement, or Inspection Inspection

Not every roof problem needs a full replacement, and we'll tell you honestly which one you're dealing with.

Leak Repair

We track the leak to its actual source, not just the stain on the ceiling. Flashing failures, compromised valleys, and lifted shingles are the usual culprits. We fix the cause, not the symptom.

Full Roof Replacement

Tear-off, deck inspection, ice-and-water shield, underlayment, shingles, ridge cap, and cleanup. We carry the job start to finish. No handoffs, no wondering who's responsible for what.

Storm Damage Assessment

Hail and high winds do damage that isn't always visible from the ground. We get on the roof, document what we find, and give you a written breakdown so you know exactly what you're dealing with before any work starts.

Roof Inspection

If you're buying a home, selling one, or just haven't had anyone up there in a few years, an inspection tells you where you stand. We check decking, flashing, ventilation, and shingle condition.

Ventilation Correction

Poor attic ventilation shortens shingle life and drives up cooling costs. We assess ridge and soffit venting on every replacement and correct it when it's wrong. Most contractors skip this step.

Gutter Coordination

A new roof without functioning gutters is an incomplete job. We coordinate gutter work so everything drains properly when we're done, rather than leaving that problem for later.

Our Process

How We Handle a Roofing Job

Every roofing project follows the same three-step sequence, whether it's a repair or a complete replacement.

  1. 01

    Honest Assessment First

We get on the roof and look at what's actually there. We check decking, flashing, valleys, and ventilation, then give you a written scope of what needs to happen and why.

  2. 02

    Clean, Methodical Execution

We tarp the landscaping before a shingle comes off and run a magnet over the yard before we leave. The work is done by the owner and crew, not handed off to a subcontractor you've never met.

  3. 03

    Final Walk and Cleanup

We walk the finished roof with you, confirm every valley, ridge, and flashing point is sealed, and make sure the site is cleaner than we found it. We don't call a job done until that check is complete.

Why It Matters

What Separates a Good Roof from a Failing One

Most roof failures aren't a materials problem. They're an installation problem. Shingles that aren't nailed at the right point along the nail line, valleys that aren't protected with the right membrane, flashing that was caulked instead of counter-flashed. These shortcuts are invisible on day one and show up as leaks two or three years later. With 20-plus years in the roofing trade, we know where those shortcuts get taken and we don't take them. Every valley gets ice-and-water shield, not just at the eaves where code requires it. Ridge vents are sized to the attic volume, not just slapped on for appearance. Starter strips are nailed properly so the first course doesn't lift in wind. These aren't upgrades you pay extra for. They're how the job gets done. Our exterior work follows the same standard: the parts you can't see get the same attention as the parts you can. That's what a 20-year track record is built on.

Roofing in the Greater Carolinas Region

  1. 01

    Storm Season Prep

We get calls after every major storm system moves through. Older neighborhoods in Mint Hill and Huntersville see a lot of granule loss on aging shingles that looked fine until the wind hit. An inspection before storm season is cheaper than emergency repairs after it.

  2. 02

    Older Housing Stock

A lot of homes in established neighborhoods were built with three-tab shingles that are now 20-plus years old. Those roofs are at or past their service life. We're often the second or third contractor a homeowner has called after getting quotes that didn't feel right.

  3. 03

    New Construction Adjacent Work

Newer subdivisions in Cornelius and Davidson sometimes have roofing that was installed fast to meet a builder's schedule. We've seen poor flashing and inadequate ventilation on homes under 10 years old. Age isn't the only risk factor.

The estimate we write is the number we hold to. Ask Victoria Hitchcock.

What Clients Say About Our Roofing Work

5.017 verified Google reviews
Clint did such a great job helping us replace some outdoor vent covers. We had a basket style vent cover that had cracked and birds had nested inside. We had previously tried other handymen that would say they would come out and never showed because it was a small job. Clint came out very quickly, in the rain, and made it so much more efficient and esthetically pleasing. He was very affordable and professional. Clint is the MAN! He will now be our go to guy for other projects. I highly recommend him!

So, I just wanted to first of all thank Liz for the great referral to get my home project done. I was a bit nervous however after meeting Clinton, I can’t thank him and his team enough for the job well done to my satisfaction. Clinton listened to what I wanted and delivered just that. Clinton not only listened also very professional and knowledgeable. He gave me a step by step timeline and actually stuck to it. That’s very rare to find in a contractor however his team was awesome and went above and beyond my expectations with the attention to detail. So my rating is really a 10/10. I had a simple garage make over.

Let. Me . Tell . You . Something . Clint is GREAT! He’s done a major project on my home and I couldn’t ask for a better experience with a general contractor . Our current project is converting a half bath to a full bath downstairs . And as I’ve stated everything has been great and it’s not complete but I’m that pleased with the way things have come along to write a review . Communication is very important in things like these and he is nothing short of amazing with his communication and professionalism ! If there was ever a doubt on who to select for your next project , don’t doubt . Reach out to Greater Charlotte Contracting !

Had a great experience working with Clint and Greater Charlotte Contracting. He did great work in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. I have had a few home projects I’ve needed to complete within the last few months and he has not only provided me great service with these projects, but also has had great referrals for work outside of his scope of business. I would highly recommend anyone looking for work to be done in the Charlotte area to work with Greater Charlotte Contracting.

Roofing Questions We Hear Most

How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?
Age and the condition of the decking are the two deciding factors. If your shingles are under 15 years old and the damage is isolated to one area, a repair usually makes sense. If the decking has soft spots, the shingles are losing granules across the whole surface, or the roof is 20-plus years old, replacement is often the better investment. We assess both possibilities and tell you which one we'd do on our own house.
What's actually under my shingles, and does it matter?
Yes, it matters a lot. Under your shingles is a layer of underlayment, and under that is the decking. If the underlayment has failed or the decking has rotted from moisture, new shingles on top of bad substrate will fail early. We pull a representative section on every replacement job to check what we're working with before we commit to a final price. Every job is different. Contact Greater Charlotte Contracting for an accurate estimate.
What type of shingles hold up best in this region?
Architectural shingles outperform three-tab in this climate. They're heavier, they handle wind uplift better, and they typically carry a longer manufacturer warranty. For homes with flat or very low-pitch sections, modified bitumen is a better answer than shingles entirely. We'll walk you through the material options that make sense for your specific roof geometry and exposure.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most residential tear-offs and replacements wrap in one to two days depending on the size of the roof and what we find in the decking. We don't leave a job mid-project. Once we start, we work through to completion. We'll give you a realistic timeline before we start so you're not guessing.
My roof leaks but a previous contractor said it was fine. What now?
We hear this more than we'd like to. A leak that a previous contractor missed is usually a flashing problem. Step flashing at walls, counter-flashing at chimneys, and valley flashing are where most chronic leaks originate, and they require someone who knows what they're looking for. Get on the roof and look at those joints first. That's always our starting point. See our exterior repairs page for more on how we approach exterior moisture problems.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in NC?
In most North Carolina jurisdictions, a full tear-off and replacement does require a permit. The specific requirement depends on the county and municipality. We handle permitting where it's required and won't skip it to save time. A roof installed without a required permit creates problems at resale and can void your homeowner's insurance coverage.
